Eric
Wheaton's 1966 Fastback
Dear Total Control,
...I like the car setup and Buttonwillow liked it too.
I had run there about a month or so ago just prior to Mini-Nats as a
shakedown weekend. Then, Mini-Nats and again the car worked well but
it needed the power rack and pinion.
Well, Ray Boehne, our guy for this sort of stuff in
Monterey recommended further Total Control Products, this time the power
rack and pinion. That is coupled up with your engine
compartment braces and adjustable
upper control arms. What a combination!
The car has absolutely flawless power steering. And
I mean flawless. The instant we fired it up, we had 3 turn lock to lock,
vice the old "too many" and with a small wheel, too hard to
turn under 10 mph. Not now. Now, it's smoother than a new car and of
course with the married and tuned TCP components, it drives sweeter
than ever.
Under
the hood we have a 351W with Victor Jr. Heads and Victor Jr. Intake.
A 600 cfm double pumper Holley with 10:1 compression and a flat tappet
Isky cam. Bottom end has steel forged crank, H rods and forged pistons.
Tried to make it bullet proof on the bottom end. Enough power to get
out of its tracks. We have 16" Torque Thrust D's with Hoosier's.
Versailles 9" with discs all around. The fronts have Stainless
Steel discs and Spax adjustable shocks on the corners. It does handle
well.
I ran both Sat and Sun at Buttonwillow, 4 sessions
each day. ... the car trotted up to the gate each time unhesitatingly.
Darn I love the reliability. Fix at home, fun at the track...
Again,
a great add to the car. Thanks to you and your team for taking the time
and energy to engineer a great product with style, function and fit.
It literally fell into the car. Ray was quite happy with the install.
Me, I was happy with the result...
Cheers,
Eric Wheaton
